(ONLINE PROGRAM)

The University of California Irvine has partnered with LASDU affiliates to offer a 5% tuition discount to this program.

The University of California, Irvine Master of Advanced Study in criminology, law and society has been named the nation’s best online criminal justice master’s program by U.S. News & World Report for the fourth year in a row. The 2023 rankings mark the sixth consecutive year in which the UCI program has placed in the top three.

“U.S. News is recognizing the quality of our M.A.S. program once again, and we could not be more proud,” said Jon Gould, dean of the School of Social Ecology. “Our faculty and students continue to lead the nation.”

“To be ranked No. 1 for online criminal justice programs for the fourth year in a row is truly cause to celebrate,” M.A.S. co-directors and criminology, law and society faculty members Charis E. Kubrin and Amanda Geller said jointly. “Cheers to all M.A.S. faculty, staff and students who have helped make this program the success that it is!”

The program is comprised of world-class faculty members from the Department of Criminology, Law and Society. They include former presidents of the American Society of Criminology; former presidents of the Law and Society Association, the Society for the Study of Social Problems, and the American Psychology-Law Society and fellows of the American Academy of Political and Social Science.

The program consists of 52 units of course work which is completed sequentially in two years (6 quarters). In lieu of a thesis, students are required to take the course "Social Problems, Law and Policy" in the winter quarter of the second year of study, which also serves as a capstone, or summary, course in which a research paper is completed. A degree is granted upon completion of 13 courses. Commencement occurs once each year in June.

Though majority of the program is online, students have the option to take a course in residence on the UCI campus at the beginning of their course of study — "Introduction to Criminology, Law and Society." This accelerated 5-day introductory course is scheduled in August of each year for 5 consecutive days before the fall quarter begins.

The University of California Irvine has partnered with LASDU affiliates to offer a 5% tuition discount to this program.
