Dear Prospective Student,

On behalf of the entire staff and faculty of UCI’s Masters of Advanced Study (MAS) in Criminology, Law and Society, we are delighted in your interest in our program. Once you have made the decision to pursue a graduate degree, the next step is finding one that suits you. There are many exceptional choices for an online graduate degree program; we’d like to share why ours stands out among these. Our faculty are leaders in their respective fields and our department is consistently ranked as one of the top five Criminology programs in the country. The University of California is the preeminent public university system both nationally and internationally; we are known for our outstanding research, teaching and community engagement.

Our MAS program in Criminology, Law and Society is unique is several important ways. With few exceptions, our MAS courses are taught by our department faculty. This provides students the opportunity to engage with outstanding scholars sharing their cutting edge research. Our program includes a one week on-campus immersion course for incoming new students. In these five days you will have an opportunity to interact with many of the faculty teaching in the MAS program. Our student support is outstanding. If you have a question or problem, our staff is quick to assist and guide you through the process. We are there for you from day one until you walk across the stage to receive your degree (and beyond!).

Our program is suited to meet the goals of individuals seeking leadership positions within their organizations in a range of fields such as corrections, law enforcement, social services, probation/parole, as well as a variety of public administrative roles. Our curriculum provides a strong foundation in theory coupled with broad practical applications, providing an interdisciplinary approach consistent with the mission of our School of Social Ecology. Students graduating from our program are positioned for career advancement as well as further academic endeavors.

Again, thank you for your interest in the MAS program. Please don't hesitate to contact our Assistant Director, Jessica Gutierrez at 949-824-5462 or jygutier@uci.edu should you desire any additional information.

Sincerely,

Profs. Charis Kubrin and Amanda Geller
